A few months ago, one of my dearest and best friends Amy, contacted me and had purchased an amazing sideboard off of Craigslist. She had been searching for the perfect piece for her long hallway and entrance to her house. Once she had picked up the piece and brought it home…she realized that she needed help with staging her entrance and creating a warm and inviting space. Here is the before picture:
How cool is that sideboard?? She has plans to possibly paint it down the road, which would be awesome, but for now wanted to live with it in the space for awhile. So….we were starting with a pretty blank slate. Amy did not want to spend a ton on art and for a space that big…..you could spend thousands…so we decided to go with a big gallery wall instead.
I love gallery walls for many reasons…They are inexpensive, they are unique to each client’s personality, and they can be updated and changed without a ton of work. Before I went over….I asked Amy to gather some things that were personal to her or that she would like to showcase. Then I helped her hang everything. I have become a pro at Gallery Walls….so here are a few of my favorite tips:
1) Start with one big or important piece. It does not have to actually be big….but something that you want to stand out. That is always my starting point.
2) Mix and match frames, shapes, colors….there are no rules here. Monochromatic themes are always fun too. Think an entire wall of white frames.
3) Always taper off the ends if you want an organic feel. If you are going for a more cleaned line approach then this does not apply, but I always tend to think of a Gallery Wall as something that sort of flows down the wall.
Once we had the gallery wall complete, we added a few treasured accessories. I LOVE how it turned out.
Amy has been a friend for years….since college. She is an AMAZING person…..I’m not just saying that because I am lucky to call her one of my best friends. She recently opened up a Barre Studio here in Sherwood, Oregon. I am so proud of her. It is a beautiful studio that offers some amazing classes. God knows my ass could use a few more. You should check it out!! I promise you will not be disappointed.
