Happy Thursday everyone!! Hope that this week has been a wonderful one so far for all of you…..
Our Master Bedroom is a work in progress….truth be told…I wish I could start all over and re-do it again. When we moved into our home, I was 8 months pregnant with my third child, so I honestly made some rash decisions and just “went for it”, instead of spending a lot of time planning. I still think that it is a huge improvement, but I would love to make some changes sometime down the line. As with everything, when you are a busy mama….things like you own bedroom get put on the back burner…..someday:)
Now for the obligatory before picture:
Oh yeah….take it all in. I am lucky that I could see past the bad furniture choices, dark wood trim and terrible ceiling fan….. The room is actually a decent size for a home this age….1950’s. And…our bathroom is not tiny…another plus of a home this age, so this bedroom was actually an upgrade from what we had before.
And the After:
We started by painting all of the trim in our entire house white. We also replaced all of our dated, wood doors with new white ones. It was not inexpensive, but man….it made a huge difference. At 8 months preggo I literally went to the paint store and just picked the first color I thought would look alright…..I was out of time and patience. Luckily I really like the color. It is a blue, with grey undertones….so very soothing.
I did a few DIY projects in this room as well. The sunburst mirror over the bed was made using paint sticks from Home Depot. Imagine an 8 month pregnant crazy lady walking into Home Depot to steal 50 paint sticks…they did knew better than to question me. I wrote about this project here if you want to check it out. I also DIY’d the headboard using plywood, foam and fabric that I purchased on fabric.com. Someday I will get around to doing a tutorial on that…..My mom helped me sew matching pillows from the same headboard fabric.
I scored this awesome mirrored side table from Home Goods for only $250. I had wanted something fun for my beside area. The lamps are also from Home Goods. I removed the old mini blinds and added Bamboo Shades to the windows. These were purchased online at JC Pennys. They have some great prices on window coverings. And they can be custom ordered to your specific window size.
I switched out the ceiling fan and added a fun light fixture from World Market. I put it on a dimmer switch and it adds such a warm glow at night. My sheets are from Target and the duvet is from Ikea. Euro shams are West Elm and the bench at the end of the bed was a wedding gift from Kitchen Kaboodle. I have plans to re-do that bench at some point…so I will keep you posted:)
So one more look at the before:
And the After:
Not perfect, but I will take it. I did not spend very much money to turn this into a comfortable and inviting space. I would love to re-do the headboard, paint the walls and get new bedding eventually, but as all things go in this house….one project at a time.
