One reason we liked our home when we purchased it about 5 years ago, was the fact that it had a huge kitchen space. While it was extremely outdated and did not function well at all, the space was there. As you can see….maroon was a big theme in our homes prior life. This was the dining/desk/pantry area.
The main kitchen area had dated, gross cabinets and the cabinet that hung over the stove blocked the view of everything. It also had this low bar-like counter top that we never used.
It took us 4 years after moving in to finally re-do the kitchen. I am actually glad we were able to live with it for a while so that I knew what I wanted and needed out of the kitchen. While I think the end result is beautiful….this one of my hardest remodeling jobs. I served as the General Contractor, which I do from time to time on smaller remodels, but this was a gut job. Also…while we LOVE our neighborhood and neighbors dearly, we never had dreams of this being our forever house….so therefore the design of the kitchen really had to be taken into consideration. We always knew at some time we would sell this home (It is currently Pending). I tend to have pretty bold taste for my own home. So I set a few goals for this kitchen project:
- Keep the Design true to my asthetic, but neutral enough to appeal to all types of people (buyers)
- Function- Make this kitchen function better!!
- Keep the budget as low as possible
So a reminder of the before:
And the After:
I hope the new owners will enjoy this fun kitchen as much as we have. It was a fun project.
